Phase 1: Safety and stopping
Before power upgrades or cosmetics, make it safe.
- Brake hydraulics service (master, lines, calipers/wheel cylinders as applicable)
- Pads/shoes, rotors/drums, and hardware refresh
- Steering inspection: tighten up play and replace worn ends
Phase 2: Steering, suspension, and wheels
Restos drive dramatically better after a front end refresh.
- Knuckle/axle seal service and bearings as needed
- Leaf spring bushings/shackles (if applicable) and shocks
- Wheel bearings and proper torque/adjustment
Phase 3: Reliability basics
The goal is fewer breakdowns, fewer leaks, and predictable starts.
- Cooling: radiator/hoses/thermostat; verify fan operation
- Fuel delivery refresh as needed (filters, lines, tank condition)
- Ignition/electrical basics (charging, grounds, key wear items)
Phase 4: Cosmetics and comfort
Once it’s safe and reliable, go after comfort and looks.
- Seals/weatherstrips and glass channel items
- Interior soft parts, trim, and hardware
- Paint/bodywork after you know it’s mechanically sorted
