Step 1: Confirm series and approximate generation

Start with the basics: FJ40/FJ60/80/100/200/300. The body style and suspension type usually narrow this down quickly.

  • Classic 2-door = likely FJ40 family
  • Boxy wagon = likely 60 series
  • Rounded 90s wagon + solid axle = 80 series
  • More modern wagon with IFS = 100/200/300

Step 2: Find the build date and VIN

The build date (month/year) and VIN help confirm exact production details and parts compatibility.

  • Check the door-jamb sticker (common on many models)
  • Check the VIN plate in the engine bay or dashboard area
  • Record the full VIN before ordering

Step 3: Identify engine and transmission (if needed)

Many parts are engine-specific (cooling, belts, sensors).

  • Use under-hood emission labels or engine stamping
  • Compare intake layout and accessory arrangement to known references
  • If unsure, include photos in your part request

Step 4: Know your steering and axle configuration

Axle and steering components are among the most common fitment mistakes.

  • Solid axle vs IFS changes many front-end parts
  • ABS/non-ABS and brake variants can matter
  • Left-hand vs right-hand drive affects some components

Fastest way to avoid wrong parts

If you only do one thing: provide series + year + VIN (when possible).

  • Send a part request with your details if anything is unclear.

Note: Always verify fitment by VIN/series/year before ordering.
