Quick identification (fast checks)

If you’re not sure what you own (or what you’re looking at), start here:

  • Check the VIN plate and build date sticker (driver door jamb on many models).
  • Look at the body style: classic 2-door (FJ40), wagon (60/80/100/200), modern 300-series shape.
  • Solid front axle vs IFS: 80-series is solid axle; 100/200/300 are IFS.

FJ40 / FJ45 (classic)

Iconic short wheelbase (FJ40) and longer variants (FJ45). Great restoration platform with lots of year/market variation.

  • Best for: restoration, weekend driving, classic overland
  • Common needs: brakes, steering, seals, rust repair
  • Fitment varies: verify by year/market

FJ60 / FJ62 (classic wagon)

Square-body wagons with huge enthusiast support. Great blend of classic feel and practicality.

  • Best for: classic daily/overland with character
  • Common needs: cooling refresh, steering/suspension wear items
  • Expect age-related rubber, vacuum, and electrical maintenance

80 Series (1990s legend)

Often considered the ‘sweet spot’ for durability and trail capability.

  • Best for: trail + overland, long-term ownership
  • Common needs: front axle/knuckle service, steering refresh, cooling maintenance
  • Huge aftermarket and DIY community support

100 Series (comfort + capability)

More comfort and on-road manners; many are high-mileage now.

  • Best for: daily + long-distance overland
  • Common needs: front end wear items, cooling maintenance, brakes
  • Great platform for suspension/brake upgrades

200 Series (modern V8 era)

Powerful, refined, and very capable. Lots of upgrade demand.

  • Best for: towing, family travel, modern overland
  • Common needs: brakes, suspension wear items as mileage rises
  • Great accessories market (affiliate-friendly)

300 Series (newest platform)

Newest generation with market/trim variation. Owners often want accessories and clear fitment guidance.

  • Best for: modern travel + upgrades
  • Key caution: regional differences affect fitment
  • Build content around verification and accessory compatibility
