Start with the part category
Not all parts should be sourced the same way.
- Critical fitment: OEM often saves time (sensors, seals, tricky assemblies).
- Wear items: reputable aftermarket can be excellent value (brakes, suspension, filters).
- Discontinued/rare: used is sometimes the only option (trim, older assemblies).
OEM sources
OEM is ideal when you want guaranteed fitment and factory spec.
- Best for: electronics, certain gaskets/seals, complex assemblies
- Downside: price and sometimes availability
Aftermarket sources
Aftermarket is best when the brand is proven and the part is straightforward.
- Best for: brakes, suspension, service parts
- Downside: quality varies—avoid unknown brands on critical items
Used sources
Used shines when parts are discontinued or you need big hard parts at a lower cost.
- Best for: older model parts, body/interior pieces, brackets
- Downside: condition varies—ask for photos and test/inspection when possible
