Common symptoms (and what they usually mean)
Use this as a quick triage list before ordering parts:
- Grinding / metal noise: pads may be gone; inspect rotors immediately.
- Pulling to one side: sticking caliper, uneven pads, or hose issues.
- Shudder / vibration: warped rotors or pad material transfer.
- Soft pedal: air in system, fluid issues, leaks, or worn components.
What to check first
A quick inspection often tells you exactly what to replace:
- Pad thickness and uneven wear
- Rotor condition (scoring/heat spots) and thickness
- Caliper function and slide pins
- Brake hoses for cracks/bulging; check for leaks
- Brake fluid condition (dark fluid = flush is overdue)
Parts commonly replaced
These are the usual shopping list items for a proper refresh:
- Pads + rotors (and hardware)
- Calipers or rebuild components (when sticking/leaking)
- Brake hoses (especially on older rigs)
- Brake fluid + bleed service supplies
